Travels over - back to work

So this is my final blog, I have settled into to my  (temporary) tiny and hot office and have absolutely no idea what's going on.
You will all be pleased to know that Tufty has settled into her holiday home with Fiona (who is being a very good care giver) and has made friends with the dogs. She will even be going to the Sunshine coast this weekend, most travelled Guinea pig ever!
Thanks for following

A day out in Vancouver

OK I admit it, it has been raining all day.
We started the day with a very hearty breakfast and then went shopping for groceries. A luxury you don't realize you miss. I was trying to avoid looking at the prices for fear of a coronary.
We then went to visit Tufty in her temporary home, she seemed a bit suspicious of us as if we were about to put her in the car again and drive away. I won her over with copious amounts of veggies.
Next we went to Granville Island, bought some gifts, Deanna for her family and me for myself, and beer.
We then picked up Darrell and went for a large tree tour of BC.
First large tree was on the way to my lovely new house, we stalked it for a while, the house not the tree. Unfortunately I did step into a big pile of dog poo while walking down the back passage. Luckily the excessive amount of rain washed it away quite quickly. Had lunch at the local pub and then did a driving/walking tour of Stanley Park. Very beautiful and I cannot wait to ride my bike through there.
We watched the last third of the Vancouver/San Jose game, and I'm now preparing for my first day of work tomorrow.
Next stop The Vancouver Cancer Centre

Day 6 - Vancouver

2 women, 1 guinea pig, 5 Provinces over 6 Days, 4372 kilometres
We made it, hooray!!
Only a short trip of 4.5 hours today.
Not too much to say, but we did drive up to the top of mountains above the cloud line.
Today's most interesting warning sign "Drive slowly, crack opening up..." WTF
Lots of construction driving into Vancouver, it certainly had Emily (the GPS) confused, she kept redirecting us until we were apparently driving into the river, at this point she remained silent and left us to it.
Tufty is in her temporary home at Fiona's, I hope she doesn't get lonely tonight.

Tomorrow - exploring Vancouver

Friday - Kelowna, BC

Holy Mountains, what a spectacular sight coming the Banff National Park.
We continued our fast paced trip, I only allow approx. 6 mins for wash room, sight seeing and meal stops. Can't have Tufty suffering from heat exposure in the car.
My new theme tune is "We like to move it, move it......."
Not much wildlife to speak of but we may have seen an Elk, we couldn't be sure as we only saw it's butt.
We did make a slightly illegal stop at Lake Louise, contemplated dipping our toes in but it was frozen solid. If only we'd bought the window braking tool as suggested by Dee's Auntie Sharon.

We got to Kelowna in good time and had a great visit with Paige and her kids, we're getting quite good at this mooching business.
Went for a nice walk along the shores of Okanagon Lake but exercising after 5 days of sitting made me very tired and I had to go to bed shortly after. Only to be rudely awakend by Deanna climbing, spiderman like, into the top bunk. Apparently the ladder seemed to obvious to attempt.

Next stop Vancouver
Due to technical difficulties we could not get onto the internet on Friday, please check back Saturday for news of our amazing trip through the mountains!

Day 3 - Saskatchewan

Someone told me that travelling through The Prairies is boring, I guess they haven't travelled with Deanna.
Fueled by Deanna's aunties stories of "you shouldn't go further without a tool for breaking windsheilds", "people make the mistake of not waiting until the car is completely full of water before trying to get out" and "it only takes 18 inches of water to wash a car away".
So the day started with a quick trip to see the family farm, my question "isn't this the road your auntie told us not to take? Deanna's reply "Oh, I'm sure they would have blocked it if it was unsafe"
This is a farm field, who knew you needed a Causeway to get through. I started to really worry when the army appeared sandbagging the side of the road. We made it through though before the controlled breach of the Dike (that was a scary conversation at the dinner table yesterday let me tell you, apparently a controlled breach is much better than an uncontrolled blowing of the dike, I beg to differ).

The journey from then continued without much scenery, lucky it was a short day.
We are now in Moose Jaw and have just had supper with Deanna's Mum, great aunt and second cousin. It was an English tea type meal on bone china and very welcome.

Next stop Calgary

We made it out of Ontario

Another exciting day for the Hicks/Manship road trip.
We have met the real Thelma and Louise - 2 Mennonite women in a very large truck.
We first met them just "South of Wawa" last night, met them several times during today and last encountered them as they were pulled over by a police officer. We pondered driving back to see if the police officer was locked in the boot of his own car.
Other notable moments of today:
Deanna inhaled a tic tac, it was not pleasant and apparently she could smell "orange"  for quite some time after (I suggested only snorting powder in future)
Deanna's ability to answer important directional questions while apparently asleep and drooling.
Animals seen today:
2 Moose - not as scary as yesterday as it was daytime and they didn't loom so much
1 rabbit
1 heron
2 deer
1 Bald Eagle (as in "whats that? It's a bloody bald eagle!")
Favourite sign:
"Ban criminals not Guns"

Tomorrow is an exciting day of flatness - we fully expect to take it in turns at watching movies all trip.
Moose Jaw here we come.

Day 1 of Epic journey

We made it to Marathon (about half way to Winnipeg) in one day and are very impressed with ourselves. Tufty was very quiet on the journey but has livened up in the hotel room, just in time for us to try to sleep.
Very exciting trees and rocks along the trip, it did get very cool once we hit Lake Superior, we even had to avoid a rock slide.
Animals spotted so far (apart from Tufty):
1. Moose (I almost pooped myself) adrenalin rush almost had us to Thunder Bay
2. Bob cat - Extremely cool, he stood and looked at us for a while but didn't find us that interesting.

Tomorrow Winnipeg and dinner with Deanna's family - wish me luck.
Apparently we have to eat beef

Tufty is ready

Travels with Tufty - Preparation

17 hours to go until Deanna, Tufty and I head to Vancouver. Watch this space for exciting snippets of our trip. First stop, somewhere approximately half way to Winnipeg.
